| Our alternate transportation, purchased
in 2006. A 2000 Winnebago Chieftain, previously enjoyed. It's a diesel
"pusher" which means the engine is in the back. This makes it very quiet
up front while you are driving. All the comforts of home in a few
hundred square feet. |
 |
 |
| View from the front. The kitchen has 3
burner gas range and a convection microwave. I made cookies just to say
I did. Very little counter space. The table can collapse to another bed,
but it's pretty short. |
Driver's area, with enough controls to
make it fly. 6 speed transmission, fancy brakes. We have added a tire
temp and pressure monitoring system which occasionally works. There is
also a back-up camera and theoretically the driver can hear the person
out back, if it weren't for the engine noise. But we can always tell if
that Subaru is still following us. |
 |
 |
| View from the back, the couch has seat
belts |
Large TV in main room, there is also Bose
surround sound, a VCR, DVD, antenna, and satellite dish |
 |
 |
| Navigator's console; the desk opens and
is a perfect place to rest my feet when it's not being used for the
computer. Chairs recline and can be turned to face the living area (when
not driving, of course) |
From the outside, with the awning open.
The coach is 37' long and has one slide-out on the other side. The
entire couch and kitchen area moves out about 16 or 18 inches. |
 |
 |
| It had a new (and rock hard) queen
mattress when we bought it, but we squeezed in an expanded queen Sleep
Comfort bed with dual controls. If we are going to be here for months at
a time we need to be comfortable. The side cabinets have hanging bars
and Bill built shelves into the overhead space |
The reading room |
 |
 |
| Sink and shower area can be closed off
from the bedroom with sliding door, and from living room. |
The shower is good, but the tub is too
small for an adult human |
 |
 |
| The fridge is compact. It has a small
freezer with ice maker. |
There are cabinets everywhere and we
haven't filled them all yet. |
|
Behind this rig is an 18' trailer with the car on it.
It's aluminum and easy to load and unload, but parallel parking is an
interesting challenge (which Bill has met and Debbi wouldn't consider
trying) |
